Create or Regret

cre·ate

tr.v. cre·at·ed, cre·at·ing, cre·ates

  1. To cause to exist; bring into being.
  2. To give rise to; produce.
  3. To invest with an office or title; appoint.
  4. To produce through artistic or imaginative effort: create a poem; create a role.

Over the past 12 or so years, I have had the sincere pleasure of working with several amazing creative thinkers.  In fact, a few of these people were the very individuals that I looked up to when I was in my younger, very formative years as a musician and producer.  Being that I get to live a “creative” life, it’s assumed and expected that I develop “new” ideas and products — after all, I’m paid to do it (gratefully).  Yet, everyone of us has the ability to “create”.  Yes, it’s true!

You may be thinking, “Luke, I’m just a so-and-so and can only do so-and-so [insert excuses here].”  Regularly and purposefully being creative simply means training your mind [imagination] to be active in an area that you might not engage in very often because it seems “silly”.  Everyone of us has aspirations [at least the ability] to create some form or fashion — you simply might not see it as such.  Be encouraged to see things differently, to hear things differently, to feel things differently.  In your circles, consider how much better or completely life changing if that “X-Y-Z” could do this and that?!  Every invention and song created to this day have all been products and/or derivatives of something someone has done before.

Don’t look back one day and go through the wished-I-had’s or why-didn’t-I’s.  Will you create or regret?  It’s up to you.  All of us have great ideas, as silly as they may initially seem.  Don’t look back years from now and experience regret.  You can create ideas for your office, home, family, place of worship, community, etc.

It is true that there is nothing new under the sun, but you can find new and profound ways of utilizing what you have right in front of you!

Walt Disney once said, “I dream, I test my dreams against my beliefs, I dare to take risks, and I execute my vision to make those dreams come true.”  To dream, to believe, to dare, and to do — these are all things you are able to activate in your own life as well.

I find ideas, encouragement and excitement through the many books, blogs, tweets, websites, locations and such that I can get my hands and eyes on.  Reach outside your usual areas of idea exposure and find that something that excites you to want to do something with it!  I can assure you, you won’t regret it!!!  Create or Regret?  I know what I prefer and I know what you can do! What’s holding you back?!
